Originally written in 2010 and then stuck in draft... Finished just today...
The constant refrain that we hear(and often say) is "sarkar kuch karti nahin...".
Of course it is Governmnet's responsibility to take care of the chaotic traffic situation.
We as good citizens will jump red lights, jay-walk, not drive in lanes, not park correctly, not wear helmets, drive rashly, do tripling and wheelies, not give way to the traffic, drive without licence...
Ab ham itna karte hain to sarkar ko bhi to kuch karna chahiye???
Government is also not doing anything for promoting cleanliness in the country...
We will throw garbage out of our swanky new cars; clean our house and throw the Kooda on the road; do puja at home and throw the Bhagwan ka Chadhawa in Yamuna; have a servant at home, but will ask them to not use our washrooms; Will offer food and leftovers to birds and animals, outside somebody else's home;...
And the Government??? Gandagi hai ki uthati hi nahin???
Safety and Security of People, especially women, is the Government's responsibility, right?
Hum kirayedaar to rakhenge, par uska police verification nahin karwayenge; maidservants and drivers rakhenge par koi pooch-taach nahin (Dar ki kahin bhag na jaye...); badmasi dekh kar bhi chup rahenge, ki hamko kya; pas pados main kya ho raha hai, usse hamein koi sarokar nahin; Ghatiya neta chunenge: Ghar mein ladki aur ladkon mein bhed-bhaav karenge, lekin bahar equality mangenge...;
Aur jab kuch ho jayega to shor machayenge... Sarkar bekaar hai...
I firmly believe that Charity begins at home: Nij par shasan phir anushasan is the call of the day. The time has come to look within and make a small change in what we are doing before asking others to help...
Ask not what your country does for you, ask what you do for your country(a bad paraphrase of what Kennedy told the Americans). If every one of us does our little bit, things will improve drastically and we will hopefully live in our own paradise...
